French post-rock project Kwoon brings its cinematic approach to instrumental rock to Paribu Art on Thursday 12 November. Led by musician Sandy Lavallart, the project builds expansive compositions from layered guitars, atmospheric textures and slow-burning crescendos, pairing music with a visual language shaped by travel, landscape and a sense of exploration. The performance comes as Kwoon continues to develop a body of work that connects the immersive scale of post-rock with a more personal, melodic sensibility. Tickets are available via Paribu Pass.
Kwoon first established its identity with Tales and Dreams (2006), an album that introduced the project’s dreamlike sound and emotional breadth. Its follow-up, When the Flowers Were Singing (2009), expanded that approach through long instrumental passages, shifting dynamics and richly textured arrangements. Tracks such as “I Lived on the Moon” have become defining points in the project’s catalogue, reflecting Lavallart’s interest in music that evokes imagined worlds without relying on lyrics to tell a story.
That relationship between sound and imagery has remained central to Kwoon’s development. Lavallart has taken the project beyond conventional stage performance, recording guitar-driven pieces in remote natural settings and incorporating the resulting footage into its visual presentation. The music’s gradual builds and open-ended structures lend themselves to this approach, allowing atmosphere and movement to carry as much weight as melody.
In 2025, Kwoon released both Odyssey and Unplugged from the Moon, revisiting its material through different perspectives. Odyssey draws on Lavallart’s travels and experiences across varied landscapes, while the unplugged collection brings the compositions into a more stripped-back setting. Together, they reflect a project still exploring the relationship between place, memory and sound, with live performances offering a meeting point for its musical and visual dimensions.
