(Oct 30) Headache @ Fiba Salon IKSV

Friday 30 October marks the live performance of experimental spoken-word and electronic project Headache at Fiba Salon IKSV. Curated by London producer Joseph Thornalley, better known as Vegyn, the project merges introspective ambient trip-hop with uncanny, computer-generated vocal narratives. What makes this appearance particularly compelling is the rare translation of an intentionally surreal, studio-bound art experiment into a tangible stage experience, bridging the gap between artificial performance and genuine emotional resonance. Tickets are available via Passo.

Headache emerged as an intriguing conceptual collaboration between Vegyn and writer-poet Francis Hornsby Clark, debuting on Vegyn’s independent label PLZ Make It Ruins. The project’s breakthrough debut LP, The Head Hurts but the Heart Knows the Truth (2023), gained significant underground acclaim for its unusual delivery. Clark’s bittersweet, stream-of-consciousness poetry was voiced entirely by artificial intelligence text-to-speech software, overlaid across Vegyn’s signature plush, slow-tempo downtempo grooves, melancholic synth pads, and lo-fi percussion.

The resulting music struck a surprisingly deep nerve across electronic and indie circles, capturing the specific existential fatigue, dark humor, and quiet disconnections of modern life. Subsequent releases, including the follow-up album Thank You For Almost Everything, expanded on this peculiar juxtaposition of synthetic delivery and raw human vulnerability. Live, the soundscapes rely on hypnotic repetition, ambient textures, and spoken cadence to build a unified atmosphere that feels equal parts ambient soundscape and conceptual performance piece.
