(Jan 18,19) José González @ Salon IKSV

Salon IKSV will host Swedish-Argentine indie-folk singer José González on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 January. Set to start at 21:30 and 22:00, tickets are priced at 89.50 (67.50 for students) and are available via Biletix.

Fans are often surprised to know that the artist’s musical origins began with hardcore punk outfit Back Against the Wall and continued in the same vein throughout the 1990s with hardcore’s Renascence and Only if You Call Me Jonathan. It wasn’t until 2003 that González released solo material and later that same year the foundations of his freshman release Veneer that would eventually define the rest of his career. With soft, soothing vocals and intricate guitar work, González has since carved a name for himself as one of the most recognizable performers in the indie-folk scene.

Following 2005’s international release of Veneer, González dedicated himself to touring internationally and beginning work on his second album, In Our Nature (2007). His sophomore effort drifted into new territory, voicing his political, atheist, and vegetarian leanings more prominently.

González’s covers, including from The Knife, Bruce Springsteen, Joy Division, and Massive Attack, have featured prominently on his two initial albums as well as via singles and in live performances. His 2015 release Vestiges & Claws was the first to depart from this formula and in many ways is his most personal album to date.
