CIRCUIT Opening Party @ Kadıköy

Much to our delight, Closet Circuit returns to Istanbul in the form of their recently renovated, larger space CIRCUIT in Yeldegirmeni, Kadıköy. They’ll be celebrating by hosting an eventful opening party on Saturday 15 October, with the festivities running from 19:00 to 22:00 and free entry. Music, raffles, snacks and more will be on hand, with organizers reminding attendees to be sustainable and avoid bringing single use packaging.

From the organizer:

CIRCUIT, a space for sustainable creativity, is proud to announce it’s Opening Party in Yeldegirmeni, Kadikoy on Saturday 15 October 2016, 19.00 – 22.00. The opening party will be an opportunity to see CIRCUIT, meet the team, and find out more about the organization.

CIRCUIT is an arts and culture space that connects people through gatherings, exhibitions and creative education. Its programs encourage self-inquiry, environmental awareness, and community mindfulness. Regular and seasonal events include drawing classes, yoga, tupperware (collective) dinners, documentary film nights, and artist bazaars. In addition, minimizing waste, reusing materials, and communicating methods of sustainability remain central to operations at CIRCUIT. This includes making a visible effort at separating garbage and recycling, while using only reusable plates, glasses, and cutlery at all events.

In 2014 CIRCUIT began as Closet Circuit in Cukurcuma. The organization was founded by Ülkü Çağlayan as a second-hand clothing store and shop for up-cycled and handmade products. Following the Museum of Garbage exhibition by FLYING Roots in March 2015, the shop evolved into a space for exhibitions and events related to arts and sustainability. The space in Çukurcuma closed in April 2016, and is now reopening with the new branding and name, CIRCUIT. CIRCUIT now shares its space with the newly-opened architecture firm, GIG. The architects at GIG designed the renovations for the new space.

The opening party will be a celebration with music, snacks, and beverages. On display will be artistic work from several past exhibitions as well as works done by students from drawing classes. In addition, several prizes, including a canvas bag, reusable water bottle, and free yoga or drawing class, will be raffled. All reusable products in the shop, including bags and water bottles, will be 50% off. The CIRCUIT team will also give a short presentation about the organization’s history and give a preview of upcoming programing.

***As with every event, for the opening party we ask everyone to do their best to avoid bringing any single use packaging to the space (plastic water bottles, plastic bags, throw away food containers, etc). Help join us in being creatively sustainable!***

Other events at CIRCUIT this fall include:
Mondays & Wednesday, Yoga (18.30-19.45)
Tuesdays, Drawing Classes (18.30 – 20.30)
22 October, Documentary Night: “The Economics of Happiness”
28 & 29 October, ‘Art on a Card’- a group artist exhibition of postcards designed on an Istanbul-related theme

The space is also available for independent rental for events or exhibitions.
