Tuesday 27 October brings the ethereal dream pop and slowcore soundscapes of Bubble Tea and Cigarettes to Blind for their inaugural performance in the country. The Los Angeles-based duo has built a dedicated international following by channeling mid-century European film scores, Japanese melodic sensibilities, and classic shoegaze into quiet, smoke-filled atmospheric pop. What makes this appearance compelling is the project’s transition from studio-bound isolation to a fully realized live stage act, giving audiences a rare opportunity to experience their lush, highly cinematic arrangements in an intimate setting. Tickets are available via Biletinial.
Formed in New York City in 2020 by duo Kat and Andi, the band initially generated traction through self-released singles that captured a distinct sense of urban loneliness and post-adolescent romanticism. Their debut full-length album, There’s Nothing But Pleasure (2022), solidified their signature aesthetic, blending velvet-smooth vocals with sweeping strings, analog synthesizers, and vintage bossa nova rhythms reminiscent of 1960s lounge compositions. The release drew immediate praise across indie music circles for its meticulous production values and unapologetic embrace of melancholic romance.
Drawing sonic parallels to pioneering dream pop acts like Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins, and Cigarettes After Sex, Bubble Tea and Cigarettes balance delicate minimalism with lingering emotional weight. Their tracks rely heavily on subtle dynamics, hushed vocal delivery, and reverberant guitar textures that create a distinctly hypnotic, late-night pulse. Rather than relying on volume or distortion, their live performance draws power from space, restraint, and an immersive visual and auditory mood that lingers long after the final notes fade.
