Mark William Lewis brings his blend of hypnagogic pop, ambient music, slowcore, folk and indie rock to Fiba Salon İKSV on Thursday 15 October. The London singer-songwriter has emerged as one of the more distinctive voices in the current British alternative scene, combining a sonorous baritone with spare, atmospheric arrangements and lyrics shaped by an evident interest in poetry and literature. Lewis began developing his solo work after playing in the noise band Bad Food as an art student, where performances in galleries paired abrasive sounds with his own poetry. His influences extend from Nick Drake and the Durutti Column to writers including T.S. Eliot, James Joyce and Allen Ginsberg, and that mixture of literary attention and unconventional musical instincts remains central to his work. His first full-length album, Living, arrived in 2023, establishing a sound that could move between folk-like songwriting, ambient textures and slowcore without settling comfortably into any single category.
His profile expanded considerably in 2025 with the release of his self-titled second album through A24 Music, making Lewis the label’s first non-soundtrack signing. Tracks including “Tomorrow Is Perfect” and “Seventeen” helped introduce his work to a wider audience, while collaborations with artists such as MIKE and Nina Cristante have placed him in conversation with a broader experimental and independent music community. His live performances retain the same understated character as the recordings, relying on atmosphere, vocal presence and careful shifts in intensity rather than conventional showmanship.
