Performing in Istanbul for the first time, the Brooklyn-based Pakistani artist will be blessing the Babylon stage on Saturday, 26 November! Doors are set to open at 21:00. Grammy Award-winning Pakistani composer, songwriter and vocalist Arooj Aftab will be our guest on Saturday, November 26th! Brooklyn-based Arooj Aftab’s liminal sound ranges from classical minimalism and new age, from Sufi poetry to electronic trance, from jazz forms to a bare existence. He formed the basis of his own music and started to produce with lessons ranging from pop, South Asian classical music and Urdu Poetry, which he took from an early age. The artist, who left Lahore and moved to Boston when he was accepted to Berklee College of Music, moved to New York after completing his education. During this period, he turned to abstract jazz and contemporary compositions, opening a new field for his composition and combining it with his extraordinary vocals. Combining acoustic guitar and unique vocals with flying electronics in his debut album “Bird Under Water” released in 2015, Arooj Aftab shared his second album “Siren Islands” in 2018. Aftab’s latest album “Vulture Prince” in 2021, which helped make his name known, received high praise from the critics and is one of the best tracks and albums of 2021 published by many important music channels such as The Guardian, 6Music, NPR, Pitchfork, TIME, Uncut and Songlines. entered their list. The artist, who won the “Best Global Music Performance” award at the 2022 Grammy Awards, also has a nomination in the “Best New Artist” category.
