British alternative rock band Suede return to Istanbul on Friday 17 July with a performance at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage, presented by Epifoni with the support of %100 Müzik. One of the defining bands of the Britpop era, Suede helped reshape the sound and aesthetics of British guitar music in the early 1990s with a style that combined glam rock drama, art-rock ambition, and darkly romantic lyricism.Tickets available via Passo.
Formed in London in 1989, the band quickly gained attention with their self-titled debut album Suede, which became one of the fastest-selling debut albums in UK history upon its release in 1993. Their early records, including Dog Man Star and Coming Up, helped establish a distinct identity within the Britpop movement, balancing sweeping melodies with Brett Anderson’s theatrical vocal delivery and Bernard Butler’s expressive guitar work. Songs such as “Animal Nitrate,” “Trash,” “Beautiful Ones,” and “So Young” became defining anthems of the era.
Across a career spanning more than three decades, Suede have continually reinvented their sound while maintaining the dramatic intensity that first defined them. Following their reunion in the 2010s, the band released a series of critically acclaimed albums that reaffirmed their place within contemporary alternative rock. Their latest album Antidepressants continues that trajectory, exploring darker sonic textures while retaining the melodic ambition that has long characterized their work.
Renowned for their emotionally charged live performances, Suede remain a powerful presence on stage, with Brett Anderson’s dynamic frontmanship at the center of the experience. Their Istanbul performance promises a set that moves between new material from Antidepressants and the songs that helped shape the sound of 1990s British rock.
