Ellende brings its atmospheric post-black metal to Blind on Friday 2 October, with the Austrian project arriving during a significant period in its evolution following the release of Zerfall in 2026. Led by multi-instrumentalist Lukas Gosch, Ellende has spent more than a decade balancing black metal’s intensity with expansive melodies, ambient passages and elements of classical instrumentation, creating music that draws as much from melancholy and introspection as from the genre’s harsher traditions. Founded by Gosch as a solo project in 2011, Ellende developed its defining sound through the early releases Rückzug in die Innerlichkeit and the self-titled 2013 album. The project’s music gradually expanded beyond conventional black metal structures, incorporating piano, strings and long-form arrangements alongside distorted guitars and harsh vocals. Todbringer, released in 2016, further established this approach, while Lebensnehmer in 2019 brought a more developed and deliberate sense of atmosphere to the songwriting.
The following years saw Ellende continue that progression through the Triebe EP and the 2022 album Ellenbogengesellschaft, before revisiting Todbringer in 2024 with Todbringerin. Zerfall, released in 2026, marks the latest chapter in a catalogue that has consistently treated black metal as a starting point rather than a fixed boundary.
Although Ellende remains Gosch’s solo project in the studio, its live incarnation has been active since 2012, with a recurring group of musicians translating the densely layered recordings to the stage. That distinction is central to the project’s live character: the contrast between sustained atmospheric passages and sudden shifts into heavier, more abrasive sections becomes physical without losing the introspective quality that defines the recordings.
