As part of a wonderfully full 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival program, courtesy of IKSV, comes a much anticipated performance from jazz icon YolanDa Brown at Sultan Park (Swissotel The Bosphorus) on Wednesday 10 July. Tickets are available now via Passo.
From the organizer:
British-Jamaican jazz icon YolanDa Brown brings her free-spirited music and endless energy to the 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival stage.
One of the UK’s most successful female saxophonists, YolanDa Brown is a double MOBO Award winner, sits on the advisory board for the London Philharmonic Orchestra, is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust and London Music Fund, Chair of Youth Music, and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of East London. She is also an educator, author, presenter, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. In 2012 she released her first album April Showers May Flowers which brought together all her favourite musical genres. This album was an ambitious start and hinted at what was to come on the musical journey of YolanDa Brown. In 2017, she released the album Love Politics War, consisting of compositions inspired by being together with family and friends in times of love, politics, and war. YolanDa Brown has collaborated with artists such as Dave Stewart from Eurythmics, Bill Laurance from Snarky Puppy, Kelly Jones from Stereophonics, and Rick Astley. She has toured with The Temptations, Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, and Billy Ocean.
We will be meeting on the terrace of Swissôtel The Bosphorus overlooking the Bosphorus Strait to listen to what the versatile artist YolanDa Brown, who is in town for the 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival, does best: her energetic, improvisational, and free-spirited music.
