From the organizer:

Baris Cihanoglu, known for his unique figurative works among the younger generation of contemporary artists, is at Gallery Ilayda with his 18th solo exhibition. The artist is known for his extraordinary paintings on canvas and burnt wooden surfaces with special techniques in previous exhibitions.

While deformations ‘that symbolize the flow of mind we have witnessed in the artist’s style and which we often see in recent portraits’ continue , we see more the influence of the “common field” approach which is recently expressed by modern science in his new works.

According to this approach, all living and non-living things that make up the whole being are also organized by unseen, undetected energy fields outside of known energy and materials. The effects of these areas do not depend on time and space. The main idea is that everything is controlled by some kind of holistic dimension or power. Everything we perceive in the world depends on a “common field” with an implicit vibrational frequency.

In his paintings , in an unnamed time , which are standing in the middle of the void, the core families, intervening people and loneliness themes are being processed intensively. The new paintings, prepared for the ”common field”, are built on the spine of pattern and created on top of intense layers of paint. Large-scale portraits and crowded compositions are mostly on display in the exhibition.

By Ali Simsek’s description; “The paintings of Baris are just standing in an ‘extended’ unbroken ‘purgatory’. Neither nor that, with the touch of a longing for all. In the meantime, they are standing in the purgatory at an unabated moment of time. The world of adherent separates. These are paintings of worry and hope but of the most prolonged time…”
