From the organizer:

‘Culture’ is a word that we use often while trying to understand groups of people or to compare them to each other. The word itself, with its countless uses from culture physique to fungi culture, as well as over a hundred social studies-related definitions, can simultaneously be explanatory and semantically confusing. Perhaps the most concise and distilled definition is, ‘human’s response to nature’.

The photographs that excite us the most are those offering a glimpse of another culture, because in these we find clues and fresh points of view that in turn allow us to question our own culture. Such a photograph can either present itself as an indexical document or take the figurative, nuanced path of poetry.

“Tales of Innocence” Timurtaş Onan’s images of life in the Western Taurus Mountains will be on display at Gallery ARK on April 12th. A photographic exhibition inviting us to reflect upon our own lives and culture in a poetic way.’
