Sep 19 – Okkervil River @ Salon IKSV

Salon IKSV will host Texan indie rockers Okkervil River on Wednesday 19 September. Set to start at 21:30, tickets are priced at 60 TL (45 TL for students) and are available via Biletix.

From the organizer:

The band was formed by Will Sheff in Austin, Texas, where no day passes by without another gift is presented to the music world. Thanks to him, the band survived through all the changes in its crew in their 20 years career. The band’s name comes from the short story of the Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya. Their debut album cracked the gates open to the world-famous music fair South by Southwest, followed by their joining to one of the greatest families of indie-rock, Jagjaguwar. Sheff, together with the band’s very first accordionist and pianist Jonathan Meiburg, formed Shearwater, another band to collect and perform songs that fall outside the Okkervil River style. This was to cause Meiburg to leave Okkervil River and move on solely with Shearwater in the long run. Despite all the separations they have gone through, Okkervil River managed to be one of the most sought-after bands and restructured themselves after the founding member Sheff overcame his therapies. According to Sheff, the 2017 tour with the new band members has been the most inspiring since 2003. The stories they collected during the tour paved the way to the 2018 album ‘In the Rainbow Rain’. Be at Salon on 19 September to hear those stories first-hand.
