Grammy Award winning duo Secret Garden celebrates its 30th anniversary with a performance at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage on Sunday 22 November, presented by Stagepass and Musicarium. Blending new age, Celtic, classical and folk traditions, the Norwegian-Irish ensemble has spent three decades creating music defined by lyrical melodies and understated emotional expression. The anniversary tour revisits the compositions that established Secret Garden as one of the genre’s most enduring names. Tickets are available via Biletinial.
Formed in 1995 by Norwegian composer and pianist Rolf Løvland and Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry, Secret Garden first attracted international attention after winning the Eurovision Song Contest with the largely instrumental piece “Nocturne”, an unusual achievement that challenged expectations of the competition. Their debut album Songs from a Secret Garden introduced the duo’s distinctive musical language, while subsequent releases helped build a global audience that has resulted in millions of records sold and one of the longest-running chart histories in Billboard’s New Age category.
Among the duo’s best-known works is “You Raise Me Up”, originally composed by Løvland before becoming one of the most widely interpreted songs of the twenty-first century. Recorded by more than a thousand artists, including Josh Groban, Il Divo and Celtic Woman, it has been translated into dozens of languages and performed at international ceremonies and public events around the world. Alongside “Song from a Secret Garden” and “Nocturne”, it remains central to the ensemble’s repertoire and lasting influence.
Secret Garden’s live performances favour nuance over spectacle, placing the dialogue between piano, violin and orchestral arrangements at the centre of the experience. Thirty years after their formation, the duo continues to demonstrate how contemporary instrumental music can move fluidly between classical tradition and popular audiences without losing its intimate character.
