Not-So-Eco-Friendly “Bio-degradable” Plastic Bags

Recently, we have been confronted with the label, “100% biodegradable”, on plastic bags in most of the big supermarkets in Istanbul. Instead of petroleum products, these bags are made from herbal, edible raw materials. However, the production of these so-called environmentally-friendly bags consumes more energy than its petroleum-based counterpart. Because of this, prime costs are much higher.
