Welsh producer, songwriter and DJ Kelly Lee Owens performs a DJ set at Babylon on Friday 16 October, presented by Pozitif. Blending ambient, minimal techno, dream pop and experimental electronics, Owens has developed a distinctive musical language that balances club-oriented rhythms with introspective songwriting. Over the past decade, she has become one of the most influential voices in contemporary electronic music, bringing an emotional depth to techno that draws equally from dance music and atmospheric composition. Raised in North Wales, Owens first worked in healthcare before pursuing music full-time, a transition that continues to inform the empathy and introspection at the centre of her work. After relocating to London, she collaborated with artists including Daniel Avery, Ghost Culture and St. Vincent before releasing her self-titled debut album in 2017. Subsequent records such as Inner Song and LP.8 expanded her sound through layered synthesisers, hypnotic rhythms and meditative vocal performances, earning widespread critical acclaim for their ability to bridge experimental electronics and accessible songwriting.
Her latest album, Dreamstate, marks another step in that evolution. Released as the inaugural album on dh2, the electronic imprint founded by George Daniel of The 1975 under Dirty Hit, the record explores themes of healing, renewal and imagination through expansive production and immersive sound design. Throughout the album, Owens draws on her longstanding connection to nature, using repetition and atmosphere to create music that is both emotionally resonant and dancefloor-focused.
