Ben Duke, who is considered one of the most fascinating directors of the UK stage with his mould-breaking, provocative and thought-provoking works, is at the festival for the first time! Working with his own band, Lost Dog, as well as many leading ensembles such as Hofesh Shechter, Duke is known for transforming lofty concepts and ideas with low-key elements, everyday language, impressive music and powerful images, creating an earthly space with them. The artist, whose new work is eagerly awaited, this time turns Shakespeare’s great tragedy inside out in Juliet and Romeo, creating a completely original work full of familiar experiences for all of us, and is once again praised for its contemporary look, deep theatricality and multi-layered approach.

The legendary love of Juliet and Romeo, who did not die but reached the age of 40, flutters in the webs of daily life in this gripping play that masterfully blends dance and comedy. Trying everything from psychotherapy to hypnosis to couples massage to solve their problems, Juliet and Romeo decide on a different method this time: They reenact the defining moments in their relationship in front of an audience. Thus, the great and tragic love story we all know turns into an extremely funny one where even the most touching acts are actually knitted with misunderstandings. From time to time, dance takes the place of words, and as the couple collides, confronts and even bites each other, the ordinariness of all their efforts in their relationship shakes the audience stronger than words can express. Despite all the sadness and distress they inflicted on each other, when tragedy strikes, they support each other with hope.

Telling a story that is possible, accessible and understandable for all of us with clever, funny and sensitive acting, Juliet and Romeo are a guide for a long life and a happy marriage!
