Hiring: Research Assistants for Refugee-Led Initiatives in the Middle East

We are now recruiting three Research Assistants to assist in the methodology of the project Refugee-Led Initiatives in the Middle East. The Research Assistant positions are designed for candidates who hold refugee status or are otherwise affected by displacement (e.g., as asylum seekers, IDPs, stateless persons, former refugees, etc.). The Research Assistants will work from their place of residence. There will be no travel as part of this assignment.

The three research assistants from refugee communities in Turkey, from different cities and districts, will collaborate with the Country Research Coordinator to identify refugee communities and to conduct field interviews and hold focus group meetings with their members. They will be expected to transcribe the interviews and translate into English, and play an active role in liaising with the refugee communities, from different nationalities.

Position duration: 3 months (The duration of recruitment might vary based on the workload).

Location: Turkey (Istanbul, Izmir, Kilis, Kayseri, Trabzon, Hatay, Gaziantep, Konya, Van, Mersin, Bursa)

Start date: Nov/01/2021

Salary: $125/weekly

Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the Country Research Coordinator Mustafa Hoshmand, the Research Assistant will:
• Collaborate with the research to develop a methodology appropriate for the project;
• Take part in the implementation of the project methodology in their country of focus;
• Implement a data collection strategy appropriate for their national context;
• Facilitate linkages with refugee-led organizations in their national context;
• Transcribe and translate collected interviews and update the folder with collected material;
• Participate in research and policy dialogue activities throughout the project.

Requirements:
The three Research Assistants positions will have:
• Completed a degree/diploma in a field of the social sciences relevant to the focus of this project and is ready to undertake the specialized training in social sciences methodology;
• Demonstrated experience in research methods and collaborations relevant to this project;
• Demonstrated experience in writing/ transcribing /translating research interviews; and,
• Experience working independently, in cross-cultural contexts, and in a dynamic research team environment.
• The ability to speak Arabic-English or Farsi/Dari-English (knowing Turkish is an advantage).
