(Apr 25- May 18) Arslan Sükan – Public on Paper @ Öktem Aykut Gallery

Öktem Aykut Gallery will host Arslan Sükan’s first solo show that positions the artist as a challenging narrator who re-creates an idea or a form that confirm viewer expectations at first glance while undercutting them in practice. Set to start at 18:30 on Wednesday 25 April, the exhibition lasts until Friday 18 May. The entrance is free.

Öktem Aykut is pleased to present Arslan Sükan’s first solo show at the new Istanbul gallery space from April 25th until May 18th, 2018. The opening is on Wednesday, April 25th at 18:30.

Sükan, known for his conceptual photographs, will be showing for the first time, a new medium ‘paintings’ that he has never used before.

Sükan is a multi-faceted artist who is trained in interior architecture and photography and has tackled with ideas that question the limitations of human perception, the borders between the physical and the virtual as well as the visible and the invisible. Sükan’s work positions the artist as a challenging narrator who re-creates an idea or a form that confirm viewer expectations at first glance while undercutting them in practice.

Born in 1973 (Ankara, Turkey), Arslan Sükan graduated from Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Bilkent University and studied Continuing Education in Photography at School of Visual Arts, New York. Sükan’s work have been exhibited at the Maison des Metallos (Paris, 2009), NYPH New Visionaries Tobacco Factory (New York, 2009), Batagianni Gallery (Athens, 2011), Galerist (Istanbul, 2011 and 2013), Kappatos Gallery (Athens, 2012), Ara Art Center (Seoul, 2012), Maxxi Museum (Rome, 2013), Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art (Istanbul, 2013), Museum Haus Konstruktiv (Zurich, 2013), La Triennale Di Milano (2014), Five Eleven (New York, 2015), Istanbul 74 (2016), Hotel Des Arts (Toulon, 2016), Leica Gallery (Istanbul, 2017), Istanbul Modern Museum (2017) as well as art fairs such as Art Basel (2011), FIAC (Paris, 2011), Art Hong Kong (2012 and 2013). Sükan lives and works in New York and Istanbul.
