From the organizer

One of the most beautiful voices of Polish contemporary music scene, Anna Maria Jopek will be at Turkcell Platinum Stage on October 10!

Born in 1970 in Warsaw, singer/songwriter, pianist, composer and producer Anna Maria Jopek recorded her first track when she was just three years old at the Polish Radio, and since then she never lost her interest in music. Considering that her mother is a dancer and her father is a renowned musician, Jopek grew up in an artful environment. She started jazz education at Manhattan Music School in New York and continued her studies in Frederic Chopin Music Academy on classical music. After representing her country at Eurovision Song Contest in 1997, she released her debut album in 1998 and won the title “Golden Record”. In 1998, Poland’s most prominent music prize Fryderyk was awarded to Jopek.

Jopek earned international acclaim in 2002 when she recorded her collaborative album Upojenie with American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny. Other than her fellow Polish artists who she collaborated with often, she got to work with Bobby McFerrin, Ivan Lins, Nigel Kennedy, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Youssou N’Dour, Branford Marsalis and Makoto Ozone.

Blending jazz, pop and folk elements with her lyrical voice, Jopek already has a uniqueness to her tunes. In one of her interviews, Jopek said that “Please don’t limit my music to jazz. Many things have influenced me. Jazz is essential for me because of its freedom and harmonic structure, but I grew up with Polish folk songs. I find root in these Slavic songs..”

For the past few years Anna has been experimenting with various stage forms. She has collaborated with the international theater company – Song of the Goat Theater. To take part in the group’s working process, she lived in their commune and performed with them for a month each day at the Fringe Festival in Scotland. Anna has also performed in “Czas Kobiety” (A Woman’s Time), the production of Teatr Stary in Lublin, directed by a legend of Polish theater – professor Leszek Mądzik. The music was written by Anna Maria Jopek together with Robert Kubiszyn.

Anna Maria Jopek’s music and voice will be a great addition to a magical fall evening in Istanbul!
