Thrash metal veterans Kreator and Overkill will share the stage at Volkswagen Arena on Sunday 15 November, presented by Stagepass. Bringing together two of the genre’s most enduring names, the concert pairs the German pioneers of European thrash with one of the defining bands of the American East Coast scene. Both groups arrive with careers spanning more than four decades, performing material that traces the evolution of thrash metal from its formative years through to the present day. Formed in Essen in 1982, Kreator has remained one of the most influential forces in extreme metal. Led by vocalist and guitarist Mille Petrozza, the band helped shape the sound of European thrash through landmark releases such as Pleasure to Kill, Coma of Souls and Violent Revolution, gradually incorporating melodic and progressive elements without abandoning the speed and intensity that established their reputation. Their latest studio album, Krushers of the World, marks the next chapter in a discography that continues to evolve while remaining rooted in the band’s uncompromising approach.
Overkill, founded in New Jersey in 1980, has built a parallel legacy on the American side of the Atlantic. Driven by Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth’s unmistakable vocals and the band’s relentless rhythm section, albums including Feel the Fire, Taking Over, The Years of Decay and Horrorscope became defining releases of the genre. Known for maintaining a remarkably consistent output over four decades, Overkill continues to be regarded as one of thrash metal’s most resilient and respected acts.
Rather than a nostalgia-driven package, the evening brings together two bands that remain active recording and touring artists. With classic material sitting alongside more recent releases, the concert offers a rare opportunity to experience two distinct traditions of thrash metal on the same bill, highlighting both the genre’s history and its continued vitality.
