On Sunday 17 May, the Patti Smith Quartet performs at Bonus Parkorman, presented by Stagepass. A defining voice of punk-era poetry and rock, Patti Smith has long merged music and literature into a singular form of performance shaped by lyrical intensity and direct expression. The evening will open with British alternative rock band New Model Army. Tickets are available via Biletix.
Smith first emerged from New York’s downtown art and music scene in the 1970s, gaining lasting recognition with her landmark debut album Horses. Across decades of music, writing, and visual art, she has developed a body of work that pairs stripped-down rock arrangements with poetic, socially aware lyrics and a strong sense of narrative.
Opening the night, New Model Army brings a different strand of alternative music history to the program. Formed in Bradford in 1980, the band built a devoted following through politically engaged songwriting and a sound that blends post-punk urgency with folk and rock influences.
Together, the two acts bring different generations of alternative music into conversation. The evening moves between Smith’s poetic, performance-driven approach and New Model Army’s driving guitar sound, shaping a program that balances reflection with momentum.
