As part of its commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue through the arts, the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) presents “The Island”, a standout event in the 53rd Istanbul Music Festival. the performance draws inspiration from the folk traditions of Crete, Megisti, Lesbos, Imbros, and the Princes’ Islands. These pieces reflect centuries of cultural interplay across the Eastern Mediterranean, offering a musical testament to coexistence and kinship. The concert features a distinguished ensemble: Çağlar Fidan (vocals, qanun, tambourine), Ezgi Köker (vocals, oud), Asineth Fotini Kokkala (qanun, cello, vocals), and Nikos Papageorgiou (lute, tambur, vocals).
Accompanying the performance, İKSV also presents a podcast titled “Shared Sounds of the Eastern Mediterranean,” featuring Efruz Çakırkaya and Çağlar Fidan. The episode will be available from May 28 via Karnaval’s Spotify and Apple Music channels, as well as on İKSV’s own Spotify account.
