(Past Event) +1 Presents: ENGIN @ Salon IKSV

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) proudly presents an electrifying evening of music featuring the Turkish-German jazz trio ENGIN. On Friday 13 October, Salon IKSV will be transformed into a musical melting pot as ENGIN takes the stage, promising Istanbul’s music enthusiasts a captivating fusion of jazz and world music. Doors open at 21:00 and tickets available via Passo.

ENGIN, comprised of Turkish saxophonist Ilhan Ersahin, German bassist Gregor Tresher, and Turkish percussionist Burhan Öçal, represents a harmonious convergence of diverse cultural influences. Their music transcends borders, seamlessly blending elements of jazz, traditional Turkish music, and global rhythms to create a unique and exhilarating sonic experience.

From the organizer:

‘In 2020, I started to get more involved with my Turkish roots. My father came to Germany in the 1960s as a child of guest workers. My Turkish, in turn, has a German accent. I asked myself, “Where do I belong?”’ says Engin. He sings in German, Turkish and English. The band finds its inspiration in the Anatolian rock of the 70s, the inventive fusions of greats like Barış Manço and Cem Karaca, but also in a sincere love of pop culture ranging from Pink Floyd to Altın Gün and The War On Drugs. The trio’s unique live performances mesmerise the audience. Raw, hypnotic and always danceable, ENGIN from Mannheim tells of all that life reveals: beauty and dirt, madness and adventure, loneliness and euphoria. According to German Picky Magazine, they are ‘a clearly rising star in the indie sky.’
