Endless Field

From the organization:

Emerging performance artist İ. Ata Doğruel’s Endless Field will start on the 19th of February at 10.00 am and will continue until the same time on 21st February. The performance can be viewed from inside the gallery space and through the main windows during out of hours, between 19.30-10.00. Presented by Performistanbul, İ. Ata Doğruel’s 48 hour long durational performance Endless Field aims to mark a new chapter for the performance art scene in Turkey.

Endless Field explores how to stop communication with the outer world and delve into the depths of the mind, a place the artist describes as the “endless field”. The artist believes that when our senses meet the physical space, we are exposed to poison which keeps restricting our mind. Only when he minimizes the external interventions, can he access the core of his mind. Focusing on abstraction and endurance in his performances, Doğruel aims to push his physical and emotional boundaries even more in Endless Field in order to reach a new level of consciousness and step into an infinite land.

During the performance, the artist covers his eyes with a sleep mask and wears earplugs to maintain the silence. After a few hours, he loses his sense of time and steps into the dark and infinite land of his mind. The artist aims to find a way to release himself from the physical world and reach his own land.

İ. Ata Doğruel comments on how he practices for the performance: “Taking steps in the ‘endless field’ in darkness is only possible with uttering words. Otherwise my mind shuts itself after a while and I can’t move on and eventually I fall asleep”. The words spoken by the artist and the questions he will ask the audiences during the performance will be recorded. The visitors will also be encouraged to wake up the artist when necessary.
