From the organizer:

Komsu Kafe collective gladly presents to you the exclusive screening of the documentary “Pani; Women, Drugs and Kathmandu” directed by one of the most awarded video journalist of his generation. Raul Gallego Abellan.

Notes from Pani’s official website:

Female drug addiction is an extreme taboo in Nepal, but a group of brave women will reveal their struggle to eradicate it, especially a cheap and dangerous opioid drug called “Pani”, which users inject in their veins.

The majority of female drug users are condemned to a life of poverty, suffer abuse by drug dealers, corrupt police officers, and even male NGOs workers. They endure discrimination and social rejection and have to rely only on themselves and mutual support in order to survive.

Some manage to complete the hard journey of rehabilitation while others stay behind.

This film provides unprecedented and rare access to these hidden lives, resulting in a moving and intimate portrait of the harsh reality of female addiction and prostitution in their homes, the streets where they try to survive, and one of the few female rehab centers in Nepal.

“Pani; Women, Drugs and Kathmandu” documentary was produced with the purpose of having a real impact in the lives of the women that appear in the film, and also to help and inspire other female users that are suffering from their addiction on their own.

The documentary is supporting a crowdfunding campaign initiated by Grace Foundation in Nepal, one of the few rehab centers for women in the country. The aim of the crowdfunding is to collect enough money to provide free treatment for female drug users that want to leave behind their addiction but cannot afford any rehab treatment.
