Halka Art Project will host the Carian Project exhibition “Until We Meet Again” – co-curated by Taryn Tomasello, Marga Karayol, and İpek Çankaya – from Sunday 7 to Wednesday 31 October. The opening will take place on Saturday 6 October at 19:00.
From the Organizer:
Whose story gets told and what do we remember?
Why do we carry the earth from one place to another?
How can we as foreigners integrate our bodies into the landscape?
Inspired by friendship, the opportunity to make work in an archeological landscape, and the mystery surrounding the ancient Carian civilization, artists Marga Karayol and Taryn Tomasello formed Carian Project, a long-distance, site-specific collaboration focused on the ancient Carian ruins at Amos Antik Kenti in Turunç, Muğla.
For the last two years, Karayol has been visiting the ruins and surrounding countryside taking notes, photographs, and gathering wild clay. The two artists have been meeting weekly via video call to share research, discuss new ideas, and pass prompts back and forth. In September, 2018, Tomasello traveled to join Karayol in Turunç, and the two artists embarked on a final, intensive stage of on-site work at Amos, culminating in this exhibition.
This interactive, tactile exhibition invites the audience to become a part of the experience. On opening night, wild clay gathered from around Amos will be provided, and everyone in attendance will be invited to create their own sculpture. Additional physical and experiential works on view were created collaboratively over the last two years.
Carian Project is a site specific-collaboration between artists Marga Karayol who lives in Turunç, Muğla Turkey and Taryn Tomasello lives in Portland, Oregon USA.
