Insider Trading: Twins Coffee Roasters

twins coffee yosrieIt would be disingenuous to say that Turkey doesn’t have a coffee culture. But, I will go out on a limb here and say that if you’re looking for anything other than Türk kahvesi, you are most likely going to be disappointed. There aren’t tons of options for good espresso drinks. And while I wouldn’t say that I have discerning tastes per se (I mean, I miss Dunkin’ Donuts), I was tired of drinking bitter Starbucks coffee.

Thankfully, I’ve found an escape in Gümüşsuyu – it’s called Twins Coffee Roasters and man, do they have some delicious coffee. Their espresso beans are freshly ground for each order and they use fresh milk, none of that UHT nonsense. Plus, Yosrie always takes the time to make some very impressive designs on the top of my latte. To be honest, I had quit coffee cold turkey for a good two months but Twins Coffee Roasters has lured me back in – come afternoon and all I want is a latte made with fresh milk and tasty espresso.

What I really love about Twins, though, is that it feels like a meeting ground. They have a beautifully simple one-room cafe fitted with a big communal wooden table. There are chairs outside to lounge in the sun. Agah and Yosrie are incredibly friendly, making the experience that much more pleasant. As they’ve only recently opened they are making slight adjustments all the time – they just started a rewards card system, so make sure you ask for a card and a stamp when paying for your drink. The bottom line? You can tell that they really care about putting out great coffee and this feeling is infectious.

They have a wide range of drinks on offer, including some delicious teas. Go in and get a cup to-go or stay and relax awhile. Trust me, once you get settled in, you won’t want to leave.
