From the organizer:

Lena Chamamyan, the Syrian musician of Armenian descent, will bring her combination of jazz, folk, oriental, fado, soufi, African, and Latin music to Zorlu PSM on October 22nd.

Chamamyan was born in Damascus and her first live performance came at age 5. After graduating from the Economics Management Department of Damascus University in 2002, she went on to study in the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus and graduated from there in 2007. She also studied classical music with Gloria Scalchi and Carmen Villata, world music and jazz with Meredith Monk and Manfred Leuchter, and Armenian classical singing with Arax Tchekidjian.

Releasing her debut album Hal Asmar El-lon in 2006, she went on to release a second album titled Shamat in the following year, inviting international musicians as the Turkish clarinet player Hüsnü Şenlendirici. Both of these albums featured a fresh take on traditional folk songs from the Levant and her third album Ghazl El Banat was released in 2013. She also sang in the soundtracks of various Syrian series, as well as Arabic and Armenian movies. Chamamyan is currently working on two new albums with kanun player and composer Göksel Baktagir, and pianist André Manoukian. Lena will invite Göksel on the Zorlu PSM stage and together, they will release the album at the end of the performance.

Lena Chamamyan took the stage in many prestigious venues around the world, gaining awards with her performance and influence. She was ranked among the 500 most influential Arab figures in the Arab society by the Arabian Business Journal in 2010 and was rated five stars as a world music singer in Austria. As an influential figure in the Arabian society, she wrote articles for cultural magazines in Syria about world noncommercial music, as well as giving lectures on the relations between Eastern and Western music in various institutions around Europe.

Zorlu PSM will host Lena Chamamyan and her specific tunes tinted with Damascen jasmine on October 22nd. On stage, inviting Göksel, Lena will perform some of the new album’s songs, a special artwork which will turn into an emotional journey! “Lawnan” (2 colors), the new album, will be signed at the end of the concert.
