I recently had the fortune of meeting Selma Aydemir, creator of IDA-KEW, a skincare line that is all-natural and boasts ingredients that are, frankly, better than organic. Selma and I spoke about what drove her into the beauty market of Turkey and why natural beauty is the best beauty.
Yesilist English: What attracted you to beauty?
Selma: As a child I spent many hours in my Granny’s kitchen watching her making lotions and remedies using only the natural ingredients that grew wild in the surrounding Anatolian countryside. From then, I was hooked. It was later on in life that I realized I might just be able to use some of the principals I learned from my granny to develop my own skin care range.
YE: Your product is not certified organic. Are chemicals used in your products?
S: We think that an organic certification can be misleading, as it often suggests products are chemical free. In fact, certified organic products still allow for a percentage of chemical ingredients.
No chemicals are used in our products – there is no need. We use essential oils, cold-pressed oils, shea butter, cocoa butter and natural emulsifiers.
Our products are preserved with a combination of essential oils and vitamins. We use violet glass packaging that further protects the ingredients. We also produce our goods to order or in small batches to ensure freshness and efficacy.
