(Friday) The Away Days “Dreamed at Dawn” Launch Concert @ Salon IKSV – “According to The Guardian: “Turkish shoegaze might not be a major phenomenon, but given the breadth of their [The Away Days’] talent, it soon could be”; and Independent included them in their list of “young bands that must be listened to in 2017”.”

Tupperware Dinner @ Circuit Istanbul – “Our monthly potluck-style meal celebrates good food, great company, and reusable containers. Prepare your favorite dish or you can pick something up on the way, but be sure to bring it in your tupperware! Event is free and open to everyone.”

Batu Bozoğlu // Cycle (Performance) @ Sanatorium – “presented by Performistanbul in collaboration with Sanatorium. “Cycle” is about the term “Learned helplessness” describes a state of mind incapable of influencing its future, and a vulnerable body inconsequential in its existence. This hapless body, assured of its impotence over all events good or bad, takes no action and sets no goals. It remains ever passive, and waits.”

Friday:
Radio Eksen Party @ Babylon Bomonti – The monthly function returns in style, featuring the talents of DJ Goldierocks.

Grails @ Zorlu PSM – “Grails, the American band which has released 6 successful albums that combine instrumental rock, psychedelic rock and post-rock, will be at the #studio as a part of the tour of their upcoming album, Calice Hymnal, which will end the band’s 6-year hiatus on February 2017! Majeure, the American space rock and krautrock project, will accompany Grails in this live performance that will take place on March 3rd!”

Deniz Taşar Quintet @ Nardis Jazz Club – “Deniz started singing in high school with her school’s orchestra and proceeded as a professional after graduation when she formed her own band and began performing in various venues in Istanbul. She won first prize in Nardis Young Jazz Vocal Competition, was selected with her band to perform at Istanbul Jazz Festival after their win at IKSV Young Jazz Competition and was given the title “Best Interpretation” by the Akbank JAmZZ jury on 2013…”

Abstraxion (Live) Midnight Session @ Babylon Bomonti – The French (Marseille) producer and DJ keeps us up late this weekend…

Partapart: IndieCity V @ Salon IKSV – “Organised first in 2012 with the purpose of bringing together people who were in search for more unique sounds in music. Held in Peyote for 3 years where people flooded the streets. Gathered the salient bands of local and international music scene under the roof of IndieCity. Gave the chance to music aficionados to listen to various forms of musical performances from the evening up until sunrise…”

“Trials and Hardships of Home Life for a Wonderful Couple” @ Ikincikat Karaköy – “‘Trials and Hardships of Home Life for a Wonderful Couple’ is a surreal view of a marriage for a couple who wants to play the game by the rules but not being able to satisfy them selves neither each other. Clout Theatre was established in Paris in 2012. The artistic directors of the company which is based in London and İstanbul are Mine Çerçi and Sacha Plaige…”

İpek Dinç Yüce Quintet @ Nardis Jazz Club – “She was a finalist at the 2006 Nardis Young Jazz Singer of the Year Competition and participated in the İstanbul Jazz Festival Young Jazz Singer competition. She gave a concert in the Festival. Her success at 2009 Nardis Singing Competition took her to the Nomme Jazz Festival Competition in Estonia where she won the 3rd prize…”

Rave Calling @ Peyote – “Living loyal to its Rave cultural roots, successful names of 2 types of hybrid music; Bass & Psychedelic will be presented at Rave Calling; At its current place fulfilled a great deal of 10 years along with the collaboration of Peyote Music which empowered unique music and became the well known music house of Istanbul. Rave Calling will be taking place at Peyote!”

“Apprehending and Appreciating Yaşar Kemal / Portrait of a Novelist as a Journalist” @ SALT Galata – Organized by Yapı Kredi Kültür Sanat Yayıncılık in collaboration with SALT, Apprehending and Appreciating Yaşar Kemal / Portrait of a Novelist as a Journalist with written and visual archive materials stands witness to the human-centered approach that Kemal introduced to journalism culture in the 1950s and 1960s in Turkey.

Esoteric Illusions in the Wind of the Hammer @ Anna Laudel Contemporary – “Esoteric Illusions in the Wind of the Hammer marks the return of Mehmet Aksoy, following five years of seclusion, with his remarkable, unique aesthetic. This show can be regarded as a programme highlight for Anna Laudel Contemporary, which opened recently in the old finance district of the late Ottoman Empire in Karaköy, within a historic building comprising a vast exhibition space spanning five floors.”

“300 Issues / 27 Years / 1 Magazine / Arredamento” @ SALT Galata – “One of the longest living design and architecture magazines in Turkey, the 27-year life of Arredamento is visualized as an exhibition at SALT Galata. Installed in the Open Archive on the third floor, the exhibition brings together 300 issues of the magazine. Originally published as a popular design journal, over time Arredamento transformed itself into an architectural magazine with a theoretical slant, and managed to subsist without sponsorship or institutional support.”

“Cold Front from the Balkans” @ Pera Museum – “The exhibition focuses on different generations of artists and art groups from the Balkan region. The exhibition avoids the usual unflattering political connotations the region’s name inevitably brings up but instead focuses on a natural phenomenon — the wind.”

“Wanderer on the Sea of Light” @ Pera Museum – “French artist Félix Ziem is one of the most original landscape painters of the 19th century. The exhibition Wanderer on the Sea of Light presents Ziem as an artist who left his mark on 19th century painting and who is mostly known for his paintings of Istanbul and Venice, where the city and the sea are intertwined.”
