(Friday) Kinesis / Skata @ Peyote – Two of our favorite local bands end the season in style.
(Saturday) An Evening of Songs by Marijke Jordens @ Bazaar Bayar Eskici Cafe Handcraft Workshop – “Join us this late spring evening to hear Marijke Jordens play songs from the heart. Some of her own composition, well and lesser known ballads, and the opportunity to sing along. Light refreshments plus wine and beer will be available for a small charge”
(Saturday) “LOKALIZE: Büyük Ev Ablukada – Ay Şuram Ağrıyo” @ Zorlu PSM – “Büyük Ev Ablukada, an Istanbul-based band that has gained acclaim with its sound, lyrics and authentic style, while being a pioneer to a new musical movement that is yet to be named, will be at the #studio on May 27th with an acoustic performance, as a part of their concert series called “Ay Şuram Ağrıyo”!”
(Sunday) Sketch Comedy Show @ BKM Mutfak Sahne – “SCS is a comedy sketch show that four amusing theater teams put theirs sketches on the stage. In every shows, teams write and play sketchs about a specified theme and these night shows are moderated by a presenter who elevate stage excitement.”
Friday:
Royal Opera House Screening: Jewels – “The three act ballet created by George Balanchine premiered on April 13th 1967 in the New York State Theater. Balanchine, who was the co-founder and founding choreographer of New York City Ballet had designed a sparkling ballet with three movements called Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds; each with seperate music composed by Gabriel Fauré, Igor Stravinsky and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky respectively. Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande (1898) and Shylock (1889), Stravinsky’s Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra (1929), and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 3 in D Major (1875) blend with the well-crafted jewel-colored costumes of Barbara Karinska to create a sparkling and iconic show that is still as memorable as it was 50 years ago.”

Nepalese Food Night @ Komşu Kafe Collective – “Nepal’s cultural and geographic diversity has resulted in a variety of cuisines based upon ethnicity and on soil and climate. We expect all of you to join us this Friday to explore this marvelous food and then harmonize with one another over a cup of tea.”
“In The Blink Of A Bird” Performance @ Depo – “”In The Blink Of A Bird” is the product of a collaborative work initiated by a group of individuals who pursue the possibilities of collective production, and reflect on the ways and methods of thinking, acting, departing and deciding together. The project which is hosted by the Apartment Project was launched in 2016.”
Saturday:
Zeytin @ Kaset Mitanni – “Zeytin is a Progressive Reggae-Rock band formed in 2014. Based in Istanbul, Turkey they have given several concerts over the past year showcasing their Turkish and English compositions. Other than local concerts they have performed on the main stage at Seasplash/Goulash festival in 2015, Cyrpus and Çeşme. Other than taking part in some interviews were also mentioned in several online magazines such as Reggae HR & SoundReport for their ‘positive vibrations’ and ‘captivating sounds [that] made the public dance and prepared the ground for the evening headliners.’”
Second Nature (Exhibition Opening) @ Circuit Istanbul – “The group exhibition Second Nature addresses our dual relationship with nature, exploring how it manifests in the artist’s gaze. The exhibition reflects the personal experiences and observations made by the artists, whose works use nature as subject matter and directly, in many cases, through the use organic materials. The works offer new perspectives on how we can draw from nature in ways that align with a deeper nature to create.”
100% Muzik: Etienne Jaumet DJ Set + Analog Kültür Experiment – “Etienne plays a special set for MM, before his gig at Kırım Kilisesi on Sunday.”
“Of Human – Peri Sharpe” @ Space Debris Art – “Peri Sharpe’s interest and art lies within photographing the detail and aesthetic of the everyday. Most of her photographs are images that we can all see, but do not notice. What attracts her attention is this disregard. In these photographs the ordinary and the extraordinary combine in a state that is created rapidly but consumed slowly.”
Vegan Burger Weekend @ Community Kitchen – “All income from vegan burgers sales will be spent for the treatment of stray animals. Everyone is welcome.”

“Heterotopia” @ REM Art Space – “The exposition includes new media works like video, installations and digital sculptures. “Heterotopia” is a concept elaborated by French philosopher Michel Foucault to describe the architecture space as a solution. Especially art spaces that are transformed by time connected with their nature could be seen more clearly in the heterotypic structures.” // Ends Wednesday 31 May
On Now: “Borderline” @ The Photographers’ Gallery Istanbul “In an exhibition titled “Borderline,” The Photographers’ Gallery Istanbul has brought together the work of emerging artists previously featured in the gallery.
The exhibition includes work by M. Cevahir Akbaş, Yasin Akgül, Aslı Çelikel, Bekir Dindar, Dinçer Dökümcü, Çağdaş Erdoğan, Mehveş Leliç, Nazlı Tuhera Moral, Can Tanrıseven, İsmail Tarhan, Furkan Temir and Erdem Varol.” // Ends Saturday 10 June
“The Chronicles of Flowers” @ Zilberman Projects–Istanbul “The Chronicles of Flowers is a personal documentation of Bahia Shehab’s long-lasting relationship with flowers. In the spring of 2011, when Shehab broke her left knee, her mother came from Beirut to nurse her in Cairo. Every morning, she created a flower arrangement from the garden to leave next to Shehab’s bed. This process triggered a state of obsessive flower documentation for the artist that lasted for several years.” // Ends Saturday 17 June
“The Pope and Galileo Had A Minor Disagreement” @ Zilberman Gallery “Over the last five years Casaretto has been focusing on processes of sensory perception, utilizing different materials in order to make unusual copies of systems that represent various phenomena. Bringing to mind computer programs that attempt to simulate reality, these works blur the lines between the original and its copy. The artist thus invites viewers to question their confidence in their sensory perceptions. // Ends Saturday 17 June
“Sirens and Mermaids” @ x-ist – “Seda Hepsev’s exhibition entitled “Sirens and Mermaids”, named after a chapter of Christopher Dell’s book ‘Monsters: A Bestiary of the Bizarre’, addresses the existential problems of women from different perspectives but again from women’s eyes.” // Ends Saturday 24 June
“Everyday’s Poetry – Scenes from the Fullness of Life” @ Anna Laudel Contemporary – “Anna Laudel Contemporary presents Everyday’s Poetry – Scenes from the Fullness of Life displaying critically acclaimed works by Botero which have never previously been exhibited in Turkey. This carefully curated selection reflects Botero’s artistic exploration of the human experience, imbued with the artist’s familiar socio-political insight and characteristically subtle ironic wit, inviting visitors to participate on a journey through the intriguing images of the artist’s aesthetic.” // Ends Sunday 25 June
