(June 16) Valentin Silvestrov @ IKSV

Gear up for a historic world premiere by Valentin Silvestrov, one of the most revered composers of our time. He will perform at the IKSV 53rd Musical Festival on Monday 16 June in Istanbul at Kadıköy Belediyesi Süreyya Operası. This extraordinary concert will transcend borders, bringing together the sounds of Ukrainian and Russian music in a powerful message of peace. Tickets can be found at Passo.

Valentin Silvestrov is a renowned Ukrainian composer and pianist. He is celebrated for his post-modern musical style, blending traditional tonal and modal techniques to create deeply emotional and atmospheric compositions. His early works were avant-garde, but in the 1970s, he shifted towards a more lyrical and introspective style, composing pieces like Silent Songs (1977), intended for private listening. His music often reflects themes of memory and nostalgia, with compositions described as “melodies on the boundary between their appearance and disappearance”. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Silvestrov fled to Berlin, where he continues to compose.
