(Past Event) +1 Presents: Surprise Chef @ Salon IKSV

On Saturday 20 September, the Melbourne‑based quintet Surprise Chef will take the stage at Salon İKSV. The band, known for their moody, instrumental jazz‑funk and free‑spirited grooves, arrives on the heels of their latest album, Superb, released earlier this year. Tickets are available via Passo.

Surprise Chef, comprising Lachlan Stuckey (guitar), Jethro Curtin (keyboards), Carl Lindeberg (bass), Andrew Congues (drums), and their latest addition Hudson Whitlock, originated just outside Melbourne, Australia. They’ve crafted a distinct sound shaped by the ‘tyranny of distance’, pulling from 1970s film scores, funk-infused jazz, and foundational hip-hop sampling techniques.

The group’s music has been described as “moody shades of instrumental jazz‑funk,” and features punchy drums, infectious keyboards, rhythmic guitar reminiscent of classic Studio One vibes, and atmospheric flute lines evocative of mid‑century jazz sessions. These elements coalesce into immersive sonic landscapes: deliberate, evocative, and absorbing.

Tickets are available via Passo. For more information, be sure to check the official event page or follow Salon IKSV.
