From the organizer:
“Subconsciously Returning” is research/exhibition project based on the concept of identity by Jenny Rafalson. In the project that she’s been pursuing for the last four years, Rafalson is visually engaged with the effects of immigration and displacement on identity and the traits of different cultures as reflected in personalities.
As an artist born in the USSR and grew up in Israel, she artistically works on the effects of being a non-citizen of a non-existing country, and growing up as a member of an immigrant family as many others. In her photographic works, Rafalson shares with the audience reflections of identities bouncing between two and maybe more cultures.
The exhibition consists of photographs and video works that she has realized in Istanbul as a guest artist in halka art project’s residency programme. Through the common grounds she has captured among these three cultures, Rafalson presents similarities and attractions that she has felt through objects, places, people and the atmosphere.
