Istanbul’s summer music lineup is looking better than ever. After announcements that Iron Maiden, Rihanna, Depeche Mode, Alicia Keys, Joe Satriani, Justin Beeber, and Roger Waters (of Pink Floyd fame) are performing this summer, hip-hop star Snoop Dogg is the latest to be added to the list.
Snoop Dogg, a.k.a Tha Doggfather of hip-hop, will be coming to Istanbul on Sunday 7 July, to perform at BJK İnönü Stadium.
With 12 awards and more than 40 nominations for the Pop Culture phenomenon, Snoop Dogg (recently reborn as Snoop Lion) has became the most famous star in rap, because of his drawled and laconic style. He’s a rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, TV and movie star, the founder and coach of a hugely successful youth football league and a savvy adapter of new technology.
Nicknamed ‘Snoop’ by his mother because of his appearance, Calvin Broadus was raised in Long Beach, CA. He found escape from a life of crime through music. Snoop began recording homemade tapes with his friend Warren G, who happened to be the stepbrother of N.W.A’s Dr. Dre. Warren G gave a tape to Dre, who was impressed with Snoop’s style, and began collaborating with the rapper.
He has sold over 30 million albums worldwide with a total of 35 album releases. “Doggystyle” is generally considered Snoop Dogg’s best record, in addition to being his highest-charting and best-selling album. In 2011, he released “Doggumentary,” an album he considers to be the sequel to his classic debut. The album featured production from the likes of Swizz Beats, DJ Khalil, and Scott Storch, while guest artists included Kanye West, John Legend, Wiz Khalifa, and Willie Nelson. One of the most memorable performances of Snoop Dogg was at Coachella 2012, where he rapped together with the hologram of 2Pac.
Tickets for his Istanbul concert will soon be available via the Biletix website.
He’s a rastafarian now fyi!
