Netherlands Institute in Turkey will host Nour Munawar from the University of Amsterdam on Tuesday 15 May for a lecture on Rebuilding Identity, Memory and Material Culture in Post-War Syria. Set to start at 18.30, entry is free of charge.
From the organizer:
You are cordially invited to the Netherlands Institute in Turkey for a lecture by Nour Munawar (University of Amsterdam) on “Rebuilding Identity, Memory and Material Culture in Post-War Syria”.
Destruction of cultural heritage has escalated in Syria and Iraq as the ongoing armed conflict has spread to ancient cities. The violence of this conflict is not, or course, limited to the destruction of cultural property, and has first and foremost served to create a humanitarian catastrophe. In this lecture, Nour Munawar will explore attitudes to cultural heritage among displaced peoples and refugees.
Registration is not required.
