ATÖLYE is currently seeking a resident for the second round of their Designer-in-Residence program, with applicants requested to apply via the official form before the Friday 13 April deadline.
From the organizer:
In December, we launched a new residency program called “Designer-in-Residence” for designers to bring to life new materials and designs. Within the scope of this programme, we provide unlimited access to our Prototyping Lab and equipments, mentorship and communication support. Selected designers who make variety productions and prototypes throughout the program, have the opportunity to engage with the multidisciplinary ATÖLYE community and share their experiences and get feedback on their projects as well as have the opportunity to exhibit their products at ATÖLYE at the end of the program.
We graduated our first guest in the “Designer-in-Residence” program on February 15th. The first resident of “Designer-in-Residence” is Bilge Nur Saltık, a designer from Istanbul, worked on a material focus project. She took foam as a focus material and starting point, and explored new techniques and textures to bring out the potential of the material. She thought that foam as a material is mostly hidden; it is generally used in furnitures or as a support material, but has not found its solo appearance in homes, except in cleaning. Nur aimed to highlight foam as a material and its characteristic virtues in her new designs by casting and combining foam with supporting materials to find new functional daily life objects.
Within the scope of the programme, Nur used the 3D printer and laser cut found in ATÖLYE’s Prototyping Lab and used conventional cutting techniques and new age technologies to shape foam in alternative ways. She studied foam in three main categories: its texture, its relationship with other materials and its usage as a coating material. From sponge vases, acoustic panels and to combining foam with soap, she produced a wide spectrum of prototypes. With this project, her objective was to combine foam with functional, everyday objects.
In the second round of the Designer-in-Residence program, we are partnering with Fablab Lisboa, who we know through the European Creative Hubs Network. Within the scope of the program, the global cork firm Amorim will sponsor the material concerns. The residency provides access to the Prototyping Lab and equipment, mentorship, and communications support. The designer will explore different uses of cork and continue to produce a series of designs using cork during the two-month program. At the and of the program, the results and its history will be presented with a mini exhibition in our spaces. Presentation will preferably be at the same time in Lisbon and Istanbul if possible via video streaming.

Hello,
my name is Vendula Kolářová, I am young artist from Czech republic and I am looking for some opportinity like residency or open call in Istanbul. I have been there for one week with my czech school studio. I have found that place so inspiring and I would like to come again and spend there more time.
I am finising now my BcA srudies in Brno on Faculty of fine arts in body design studio. My things are usually somewhere between objects and instalations. I like when my art is also interactive. I am also open to performances cause this is also way how to be interactive and how other people can join my art. Or even workshops are amazing think how to transfer some of my art to others.
But cause I am a student I dont have money to pay my studio in Istanbul so I am looking for some sponsorig possibilitie cause my school alowed me to go for paid internship just to EU countries. So I am looking for other options if my school is not able to support me in this country.
If you know about some possibility how can I make this real please let me know. I will be gratefull for any information.
Is it still possible to send application?
thank you for your response
Best regards
Vendy
Hi Vendy. You’ll probably want to get in touch with them directly, rather than through the comments section here, as they likely won’t see this comment through the Yabangee site. Hope it works out and best of luck!
