CIRCUIT will host “Mascarade”, a three-part eco-friendly mask-making workshop led by Cécile Alexandre, starting on Tuesday 29 November. Participants will then be able to present and wear their creations at an end of the year Masquerade on Saturday 17 December. Registration for the full series is set at 150 TL, with interested parties able to RSVP via Jessica at circuitistanbul@gmail.com.
From the organizer:
About the workshop:
Starting on 29 November, Tuesday drawing and painting classes will be replaced with a special mask-making workshop led by Cécile Alexandre. In this 3-part workshop, participants will learn how to design and create masks in papier mache with eco-friendly materials. Participants will create a mask to keep after the workshop. The masks will be presented (and worn!) at a final event in December at CIRCUIT – an end of the year Masquerade! The workshop will be taught in English and translation provided in Turkish when requested.
Materials:
All the materials for this workshop will be natural or recycled. This includes: recycled waste objects such as plastic bottles, boxes and cartons, as well as newspaper and paper packaging for forming the shape; flour and water for glue, and natural pigments and eggs for paint.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own recycled materials. These include any recycled or reused materials such as food cartons, used water bottles, packaging, or recycled fabrics – i.e. anything from your waste pile that could be used for shaping or decorating a mask. Please do not buy any new materials for this workshop.
Open working hours, Thursdays 17.00 – 19.00:
During the series, CIRCUIT will be open on Thursdays between 17.00 – 19.00, for anyone who would like additional time to work on their mask. These hours are optional and non-instructed; they are a space for you to work independently between Tuesday sessions.
Masqurade: Sat. 17 Dec.
Masks created during the workshop will exposed during a final dinner event in December at CIRCUIT. The dinner is open to everyone, including those who do not attend the workshop.
Registration:
We recommend that you register in advance. To register or for further inquiry, email Jessica at circuitistanbul@gmail.com. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to class, to pay and set up. Price (full series): 150TL
About Cécile Alexandre:
As an artist, I have developed a special interest for the tactile qualities of paper, which has now become my favourite material. Mostly inspired by the world of fairy tales, I like to create masks, puppets and three-dimensional characters in papier mache, colored with a selective palette drawn from Nature.
Circuit Waste Policy:
As an organization, Circuit Istanbul is committed to sustainability and mindful living with a specific focus on using alternative packaging and avoiding waste production. We kindly ask you not to bring unnecessary waste into the space, meaning: no disposable coffee cups (they are not recyclable), single-use plastic bags, as well as other excessive packaging. We will always have water and glasses available at the space. Thank you for your consideration!
