From the organizer:
Bringing the peace of Bergen together with its calm vocals, elegant guitar and piano melodies, Kings Of Convenience will be at Turkcell Stage on September 30 and October 1 as part of Zorlu PSM’s 10th years anniversary!
Kings Of Convenience, consisting of Norwegian indie folk-pop duo Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, is among the pioneers of the “New Acoustic Movement”, which opened a new door to the music world in 1999 with Belle & Sebastian and Coldplay. Continuing their production in indie folk and indie pop genres, the gentle, harmony-rich songs in their music remind of the bittersweet comfort of pioneers such as Simon & Garfunkel and Belle and Sebastian.
After debuting in 2000 with the acoustic album Kings of Convenience, they topped the Norwegian album chart with Quiet Is the New Loud, that released the following year. While the duo accomplished more comprehensive arrangements over time, 2004’s Riot on an Empty Street, ran upside down the Billboard rankings, placing Norway’s calm tones at the top of the US charts. Having been silent for a long time after 2009, when they debuted on the Billboard 200 list with the Declaration of Dependence, Kings Of Convenience is experiencing the excitement of meeting its audience with their 2021 release Peace or Love. You will, of course, be wondering what took Kings of Convenience so long.
When 12 years elapse between albums, you might well assume that there has been some dramatic rift. And when you learn that an album has been recorded across five years in five different cities, you might expect something fiendishly ornate, larded with fancy production and guests galore. But neither of those things are true. Peace or Love, Kings of Convenience’s fourth album, sounds as fresh as spring: 11 songs about life and love with the alluring beauty, purity and emotional clarity that you would expect from Kings of Convenience. It’s just that, for Eirik Glambek Bøe and Erlend Øye, making music together is never a straightforward business.
“It seems like a comeback, of course, but it doesn’t feel like a comeback,” says Eirik. “It’s been a very slow-burning project. We’ve fooled ourselves many times into thinking that now we know how to make records but the moment we’re in the studio we realise that recordings are really about capturing magic. It’s very, very hard to make something sound simple.”
