Studio-X Istanbul is hosting a one day symposium focused on gated communities of Istanbul on Tuesday 5 June, titled “Gates, Walls and Urban Enclosure in World Without borders”.
From the Organizer:
During this one day symposium, it is aimed to be dived into the world of Istanbul’s gated communities with an open view and challenge their current definitions. It is also aimed to reveal the different dimensions of contemporary gated living in Istanbul by adopting a critical yet sound approach.
What is life inside these gated communities actually like? How do they interact with the outside and their surroundings? Who live in these communities? How and by whom are they designed? How are they managed and secured? And how are their boundaries produced?
We invite speakers and participants to critically discuss and share their views on Istanbul’s gated communities while leaving room for context, multiplicity and perhaps even some more hopeful narratives and perspectives.
