Managed by guitarist, composer and arranger Jan Zehrfeld, the Munich quintet Panzerballet, who continues to produce in the genre of jazz-metal, is coming to %100 Studio on the evening of January 18, with the contribution of %100 Metal and drummer Virgil Donati, one of the founders of Planet X.
The music of Panzerballett has been designed to function as a perfect workout to highly develop, expand, and reinforce the connections between the brain and each muscle used for head banging. Some have reported head shaking as an early side-effect that mostly, after prolonged exposure, develops into smiling and sometimes even rapturous laughter.
Jan Zehrfeld, the band’s mastermind, studied jazz guitar in Los Angeles, Graz, Helsinki, and Munich. He has performed with DOLDINGER’S PASSPORT, the HILLIARD ENSEMBLE and Peter Herbolzheimer‘s GERMAN NATIONAL YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA. His compositions are a unique fusion of jazz, funk, and metal. Intricate funk grooves are combined with heavy polyrhythmic riffs as well as jazz improvisation. Known for their energy, chops and humor, PANZERBALLETT shared stages with the CHICK COREA & JOHN MCLAUGHLIN FIVE PEACE BAND, KENNY GARRETT, BILL FRISELL, MACALPINE/SHEEHAN/DONATI and MATTIAS “IA” EKLUNDH. German newspaper Die Welt has described them as “faster than Metallica, more powerful than Motörhead, and funnier than Rammstein.”In fall 2022 Panzerballett has teamed up with drum legend VIRGIL DONATI to perform mutually spiced up versions of each other’s compositions.

Virgil Donati’s drumming has arguably been at the leading edge for many decades, with his accomplished compositional and orchestration skills also gaining recognition. Never one to seek approval or security, he has maintained an introspective, independent mind, transcending traditional boundaries, always alert to the possibilities beyond the norm. He has recorded and toured with the likes of Planet X, Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, Tony MacAlpine, Kiko Loureiro, Bunny Brunel, Scott Henderson, Steve Walsh, and the Virgil Donati Band, amongst many others. Anton Davidyants appeared on the international music scene in 2010 with power fusion trio “Impact Fuze”. Since that time he toured worldwide with Guthrie Govan, Eric Marienthal, Damien Schmitt, among many other jazz/rock/fusion legends. His playing style is highly unique and virtuosic by combining solidity and power with meticulousness, high-speed accuracy and pocket groove.
