Introducing Sonikraf: Gaining International Exposure for Independent Musicians

A new bilingual website, Sonikraf, has arrived to the scene. Focused on increasing international exposure for independent musicians in both Turkish and English, the project is currently seeking contributors to join their efforts, while also permitting readers to submit upcoming performances and artists to promote their own music.

Radiofil Sahne will host their first press event on Wednesday 17 December, which kicks off at 20:00, with doors opening to the public at 21:00. We’ll keep you posted on their subsequent launch party which takes place on Thursday 8 January at 21:00

Their official press release:

Sonikraf.com intends to foster internationally transparent conversations about independent music both from within and outside Turkey. The website has three features: articles, podcasts, and event listings. Sonikraf does not emphasize a particular genre of music.

Article format is somewhere between magazine, wiki, and blog. Some articles may only give information about an independent act. Some may choose to review live shows or concerts. There are two categories for articles: Turkey and Not Turkey. All articles use a tagging system to make them easily searchable by decade, genre, and other miscellaneous information. Every article includes links to the artist’s work on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Youtube, or other sites. All articles must be submitted to Sonikraf in both English and Turkish.

Podcasts feature playlists and tags for genre, decade, etc. Podcasts are intended as discovery points for people looking for new music.

Event listings are stylized somewhat like a “poster wall” at a record store. Anyone who creates an account with Sonikraf is eligible to post events, as long as they can also upload a graphic that accompanies the event. Emphasis will be given to independent or less-promoted events when publication by Sonikraf is considered.

Those interested in writing articles or submitting podcasts should email contact@sonikraf.com with a general description of the material they would like to put on the site.

Any content submitted by contributors will be linked to their specific profiles, so readers can easily follow a particular contributor.

Sonikraf is not accepting and will not accept corporate sponsorship or advertisement at any time. Advertisement will never appear on the site, though Sonikraf will offer linkshares with like-minded individuals or groups. Sonikraf.com is privately owned and operated, and exists solely as a nonprofit venture.

A press release event will be held at Radiofil Sahne, beginning at 20:00 on Wednesday, December 17. A meet-and-greet between press and Sonikraf contributors will take place from 20:00 to 20:45, and will be followed by an small concert from two musical acts of different genres. The concert portion of the event will be open to the public at 21:00, and music will begin shortly after.

A public launch party will be held at Karga, beginning at 21:00 on Thursday, January 8. More information to follow.
