On February 20 and 21, the Green Building Summit was held at the Swissotel in Macka, Istanbul, and organized by Çevre Dostu Yeşil Binalar Derneği (Cedbik), the Turkish Green Building Council, which is one of more than 80 members of the World Green Building Council. In the hotel’s ballroom, the main stage had been set up to host international and national guest speakers and panels, while seminars and workshops dealing with more specific topics were held in two smaller conference rooms. The annual summit, which first started in 2012, covers a wide range of topics, from technology, architecture and building materials to sustainability and green buildings.
In my first week after moving back to Istanbul since having lived in the city in 2012 during a university exchange, I got a lead about the summit. To be honest, I was not expecting much from it, since the architectural education I received at Istanbul’s ITÜ for a semester made no mention of the application of ecological measures in the design process. However, within the first few hours of attendance of the summit, I found myself pleasantly surprised.
