As part of the highly anticipated 53rd Istanbul Music Festival, two of France’s most distinguished classical musicians, Gautier Capuçon and Alexandre Kantorow, will join forces for a captivating recital on Thursday 12 June. The concert will be held at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, offering Istanbul audiences a rare chance to witness a performance that blends lyrical depth with technical brilliance. Tickets are now available via Passo.
The evening’s program is a carefully curated journey through the emotional and stylistic spectrum of classical music. It opens with Beethoven’s 7 Variations on “Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen” from The Magic Flute, a charming and inventive piece based on Mozart’s beloved opera. The duo will then delve into Johannes Brahms’ Cello Sonata No.2 in F Major, Op.99, a passionate and richly textured work that showcases the full expressive power of the cello and piano.
A moment of spiritual reflection follows with Olivier Messiaen’s Louange à l’éternité de Jésus, an ethereal piece originally written during the composer’s imprisonment in a German POW camp. This poignant work is known for its meditative, timeless quality, providing a powerful contrast to the evening’s final selection: César Franck’s Violin Sonata in A Major, performed in the version arranged for cello by Jules Delsart. This sonata, beloved for its romantic lyricism and cyclical structure, closes the program on a soaring, emotive note.
As part of the festival’s commitment to showcasing global excellence and boundary-crossing artistry, this performance is not to be missed. Tickets are available via Passo.
