The Gundecha Brothers, internationally renowned classical musicians hailing from India with a focus on the genre of Dhrupad, will come to Istanbul for a series of workshops and musical performances from Tuesday 20 through Thursday 22 June. Gundecha Brothers, Indian Classical Musicians in the Genre of Dhrupad, after their musical tour in U.S, Canada and different countries in Europe, will be in Istanbul between 20- 22 June for Workshops and Concerts.
In the workshops Gundecha Brothers will be teaching Nada Yoga, Sound Theraphy, Frequencies of sound in vocal, instrumental music and Beat cycles in percussion instruments in Dhrupad.
Contents of the Workshop:
– Lecture on Rāga and Voice in Indian music
– Voice Techniques in Dhrupad and its practice
– Tāla (Rhytm) practice and composition
-Group and private lessons
(All musicians with instruments can bring their instruments along for the private classes)
– Question and Answer

About Dhrupad
Dhrupad is the oldest surviving form of Indian Classical music and traces its origin to the chanting of vedic hymns and mantras. Though a highly developed classical art with a complex and elaborate grammar and aesthetics, it is also primarily a form of worship, in which offerings are made to the divine through sound or nāda. Dhrupad can be seen at different levels as a meditation, a mantric recitation, a worship , a yoga or tantra based on the knowledge of the nādis and chakras and also purely as a performing art portraying a universe of human emotions.
About Gundecha Brothers
Gundecha Brothers are the most active performers of Dhrupad on the world musical scene today. They have made numerous international tours visiting more than 25 countries around the globe and have recorded more than three dozen CD`s from various national and international music labels. In 2012, Umakant and Ramakant, received from the government of India the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor of India, for their contribution to Indian classical music. Together with Akhilesh, the youngest brother and performer on the barrel drum known as pakhavaj, they operate the Dhrupad Sansthan in Bhopal, India, a unique musical academy patterned on the ancient guru-shishya (teacher- disciple) tradition of education, with students from more than 20 countries, as well as from various parts of India, participating.
