From the organizer

Prominent French acrobat, actor and performance artist Yoann Bourgeois and his troupe will be at Zorlu PSM in collaboration with French Institue for “Celui qui tombe / He Who Falls” on 11 November 2018!

Yoann Bourgeois came to dance after training as a juggler and acrobat at CNAC, the national circus arts school and spent four years with the highly regarded Compagnie Maguy Marin before launching his troupe. He is the name behind massive works such as “Energy and Balanced” performed at Pantheon, “Cavale” and “Le mecanique de l’histoire”. His unique technique to structure his performances is to use moving platforms and trampoline integrations. His distortion of moving platforms and the use of trampoline is conveyed in such artistic way that it suddenly becomes a unique poetic element of the whole performance. He Who Falls, created in 2014, unites circus skills and physical theatre with rare seamlessness. Yoann Bourgeois has long been fascinated by ideas of weightlessness and the physics of suspension and draws inspiration from Spinoza’s “non-manipulation” ideas.

In “He Who Falls” we discover six performers on a platform suspended above the stage by cables. Lowered into a horizontal position, this structure begins to revolve, slowly at first, then faster.   Subjected to increasing centrifugal force, the dancers began their lyrical combat with the wind.  The soundtrack includes Beethoven and Frank Sinatra.
