My New Band Believe, the new project from Black Midi bassist and vocalist Cameron Picton, makes its Turkish debut at Blind on Tuesday 24 February 2027. Emerging from a very different musical landscape than Picton’s previous work, the project explores the intersections of folk, chamber pop and experimental rock through intimate songwriting, intricate arrangements and an understated sense of atmosphere. Best known as a founding member of Black Midi, Picton helped redefine contemporary experimental rock through the band’s unpredictable compositions, virtuosic musicianship and refusal to adhere to conventional genre boundaries. With My New Band Believe, however, he shifts away from the frenetic intensity of his earlier work, embracing a quieter and more reflective musical language shaped by acoustic instrumentation, layered vocal harmonies and carefully crafted orchestration.
Written after a trip to China that inspired a series of vivid dreams, the project’s debut album draws on British folk traditions as much as experimental composition. Recorded with collaborators including Kiran Leonard, Steve Noble, Caius Williams and members of caroline, the record reflects the influence of artists such as Bert Jansch, Judee Sill and John Renbourn while maintaining Picton’s unmistakable curiosity for unexpected musical forms.
Rather than abandoning experimentation, My New Band Believe redirects it toward subtlety and texture. The result is music that values space, melody and atmosphere as much as technical complexity, offering a compelling counterpoint to Picton’s work with Black Midi while demonstrating the breadth of his artistic vision.
