From the organizer: The International Improvisation Dance Festival is taking place in Istanbul between 10-19 June 2022 this year in a hybrid way face-to-face and online. The festival calls for performances, workshops, dance films and presentations by local and international artists! Screendance/Dancefilm category selection of 2022 is held in collaboration with Dance Camera Istanbul Festival/Dance Camera PandeMANIA @dance.camera_istanbul & @improdancefest.
In 2022, The International Improvisation Dance Festival is hosted by the Yücel Culture Foundation, will be reaching you with the grant support of the European Union Culture and Art Fund which is co-financed by the (Support for Civil Society Foundation) Sivil Toplum için Destek Vakfı, the Turkey Mozaik Foundation and İKSV.
This year’s theme of the festival is ‘Empty Space’ and emptiness, which is inspired by the concept of ‘The Empty Space’ conceptualized by Peter Brook. Festival focuses on the reconstruction of dance in the ’empty spaces’ of the city and the way people build new connections in these ‘spaces’ through movement.
Within the scope of the theme, there are: “The components of Space, the transformation of space, the negative and positive spaces of the body, the body in space, the spaces inside and outside the body, dance as a playground, the moment of void, the ‘state of being here and now’, spontaneity.
Within the scope of this year’s theme of the festival, we aim to bring together all dance lovers within different site-specific performances designed for public spaces, workshops in openair dance platforms, experience areas, free workshops for individuals for all ages and interests.
