The first international Forró festival in Turkey, Forró a la Turca Festival will take place between August 10th-13th. Forró İstanbul invites you to discover Turkish Cuisine and historical peninsula with an experienced local tour guide who is also a Forrózeiro. This is an extracurricular event for Forró a la Turca Festival 2018.

In this tour we will meet at Vezneciler metro station which is situated in the middle of the historical peninsula, three metro stations away from the Taksim area. This part of the historical peninsula can be considered as the furthest point – an inquisitive tourist would be familiar with it, as Suleymaniye Mosque is situated nearby. The Suleymaniye Mosque complex is also on our itinerary, but we will also explore with you the rest of the third hill and fourth hills of the historical peninsula, walking through the streets, where it is nearly impossible to spot as a tourist.
Istanbul was founded on seven hills. The third and fourth hills of the historical peninsula are home to the oldest Muslim neighborhoods in the city and are home to two of the four Unesco protected zones of Istanbul and two of the largest mosque complexes from the Ottoman times, as well as a quarter of the surviving churches from the Byzantine time. The Imposing monuments of the past can be seen in these neighborhoods: the oldest wooden houses of the historical peninsula, cobble-stoned streets, beautiful fountains, picturesque Ottoman gravestones and Ottoman buildings from different periods. In these Unesco protected areas, one can literally travel back in time to the Ottoman past of the city, which is not possible in any other part of the city, even in the popular Sultanahmet area.
Our itinerary in the heart of historical peninsula is not only interesting from a sightseeing point of view. Running through an ancient residential area, which is also home to some of the oldest food traditions in the city, it also has exciting food stops. Some of the food stops are unique in the sense that they are the only producers of some kind of special food or drink in the whole city. The stronghold of the food traditions in this region also attracts other traditionally minded masters. Therefore the third and fourth hills have through time acquired the status of a gourmet center for traditional tastes including those from other parts of Turkey.
